L&R Extreme is a company that was born of personal expertise and a desire to make custom motorcycle parts that enhance your riding experience
My career has been long and dedicated to quality as a machinist at a local machine shop. Shortly after Honda released the VTX motorcycle, I purchased one for my self. The first thing I noticed was the issue of minimal ground clearance, which was backed up by various motorcycle
magazine articles. The natural thing for me to do was to make some new peg mounting patterns and test them. While I was designing the new templates it was apparent that I could introduce and extended the reach of the foot controls. One thing led to another and I had my first set made and installed.
The VTX community is world wide and growing and many fellow brothers and sisters, local to me, began to notice what I had done. It is reasonable then that after some short amount of time that they would notice them. They immediately became a local hit and all loved them. Not only did they increase the maneuverability of the VTX but they made riding more comfortable, especially for taller riders. Word spreads fast, given the magnitude of the internet and the two forums dedicated to the VTX; I was besieged with requests from all over.
It is my personal privilege to maintain a scrap book as big as the Sears Catalog of posts, e-mails, and pictures showing very high praise and appreciation for this product and for the wonderful results it provide each and every one of them.
This is not a large company; in fact, it is comprised of my girlfriend and I, each who work separate full time jobs. Even still it was important to formalize our product and create a company and thus you have L&R Extreme. The name L&R EXTREME stands for Lee & Renate. The hours are long but they are offset by the knowledge of personal enjoyment and comfort others get from our product.
At the end of our normal job work day, we begin our business work day answering e-mails, sending pictures, packaging and getting product ready for shipping the next day. You can often find me actively posting on the VTXOA forum under the nickname of Lee (the ornery one), Chas is my real name.
All products are made at an independent quality machine shop. All chroming is done by a quality chrome shop. We started out last year painting the plates ourselves, which proved a real challenge. Promptly we found a shop doing powder coating ensuring good quality at a fair price and started paying to have that done. Then as with most motorcycle owners, there is never enough chrome on one's bike so now we offer chrome versions and chrome bolts. The goal is to be able to provide choice for our customers.
The continued sense of a gratification from all our customers and their friendship continues to be our single motivating factor. It is not our intent to offer our products through other sources or channels as this will only increase the cost to you the end user. The good news is that all our customers now have many manufactures to choose from and this is good for VTX owners.
